Surcharges: Elevated Risk & Restricted Destination

DHL EXPRESS is the leading provider of international express services. We transport urgent documents and goods reliably and on time from door to door. Our network spans more than 220 countries and territories, in which some 80,000 employees provide services to more than 2.5 million customers.

As a global network operator that applies standardized processes, we are constantly optimizing our service to keep our customer commitments and respond specifically to your wishes, including in countries where DHL currently operates at elevated risk due to war, civil unrest and heightened threats from terrorism or countries subject to UN trade embargos.

While we fully intend to continue delivering all shipments to their destinations within the promised transit time, we are also committed to ensuring the safety of our employees and network.

To recover the additional costs resulting from the required security measures, DHL Express is introducing an Elevated Risk surcharge effective January 15, 2016. A $20.00 CAD surcharge will apply to all shipments originating from or sent to:

Afghanistan, Burundi, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, Syria and Yemen

In addition to the above, a global standard operating policy is in place to ensure DHL does not knowingly transport goods in breach of trade restrictions. A Restricted Destination surcharge at $30.00 CAD will apply to recover additional costs from exceptional handling of non-document shipments sent to:

Central African Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Liberia, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
